The European Spallation Source is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a super-computing data management and software development centre. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.

Come and build the future of Science with us!

About the role:

To help us realise our goal of being the most powerful neutron source in the world, we are now seeking to appoint a Safety Training specialist to join our Environment, Safety, Health (ESH) & Security division. Our division develops and maintains a strategy for Environment, Safety, Health & Security - in particular the regulatory compliance strategy - developing an ESS safety and security culture. This includes the continual improvement of related programs and activities, as well as the coordination of mandatory authority contacts in these matters.

In the role as Safety Training specialist you will be responsible for safety training at ESS aligning safety training with our strategic objectives and ensuring successful integration of safety training across the organisation. You will have the mandate to lead development and implementation of safety trainings and safety training programs across ESS. You will manage the Learning Management System (LMS), enhance its support for safety training initiatives and user experience, and use your knowledge of to develop and deliver engaging, impactful and relevant training to a diverse audience of engineers, technicians, scientists and other related professionals.

You will leverage your expertise to advise on ways of working, to manage and develop safety training and to communicate to the organisation on new or updated safety trainings. You will also be required to liaise with the Training Coordinator and HR to facilitate training sessions, ensuring strategic content delivery within the LMS, implement quality assurance measures to evaluate training effectiveness and facilitate continuous improvement and maintain current and accessible documentation for the Safety Training function.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a 6 month probationary period based at the ESS campus in Lund, Sweden.

About you:

For this role, we need a team player who is suitably qualified and experienced in designing accessible, sustainable and compliant learning experiences that meet organisational-specific needs. Ideally, you'll hold a university level qualification in a relevant discipline; however, we place more importance on experience gained in similar roles. You should have a solid understanding of scientific and engineering concepts as well as proven experience in Learning Management Systems such as Saba Cloud or Cornerstone. You're someone who is adept at hands on e-learning development; from needs assessment and gap analysis to course development, training implementation, and evaluation. Proficiency with the learning tools (e.g. Articulate) would give you a unique advantage.

As an experienced safety training specialist, your approach to continuous improvement is relentless. You excel at developing and delivering digital training content, drawing on a deep understanding of learning processes and training cycles. Your skills in competence development should be matched by your ability to manage diverse stakeholders effectively and lead projects to successful completion. We need someone who does not shy away from challenges. We need someone who has the proven ability to set and maintain the highest standards of quality and productivity. Your systematic and methodical approach ensures you consistently achieve goals. Flexibility is another of your strengths, as you will need to adapt readily to changing circumstances and new ideas, demonstrating respect and sensitivity to suit different people or situations.

We are building ESS from the ground up, so we need someone who is comfortable not only following procedures, but also creating them. We attach great importance to personality and attitude, so we're looking for a real team player: Someone who has a natural ability to work with people, demonstrating empathy, adaptability, and a knack for building team spirit. Your communication skills are exemplary; you speak English to a very high level both clearly and confidently, you express ideas effectively, and engage audiences with ease. The ability to speak Swedish would be an advantage.

What can we offer?

Aside from the chance to work at truly unique big science project, you can also expect:

• An opportunity to contribute to the future discoveries within neutron science.
• A stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
• A challenging, innovative and stimulating work environment.
• Market competitive compensation that is individual and differentiated according to role, responsibilities, individual skills, abilities and achievements.
• 30 days of annual leave, as well as more than 10 days of public holiday and company days off or days with limited working hours.
• Monthly pension contributions on top of your salary.

If you see yourself in what we’re looking for, please provide your CV and motivation letter in English by clicking on “apply” and following the instructions. Please be aware that we can only accept direct applications made via the ESS website and please quote the job reference number ESD-47364 in your application.
